Can I Clone Myself?

There are two events on Thursday, November 12th, that I'd really like to attend.

One is this film screening at RAW.

The other is a meeting at LynnArts regarding a THREE STORY mural to go on the blank side of 25 Exchange St, where the seasonal Farmer's Markets are held. I think this will be a great addition to Central Square and people are welcome to share ideas in the Time Warner Gallery at 7pm.

VOTE!!!

This is just a friendly reminder to vote Tuesday, November 3rd. If you feel that you don't have enough information, this blog contains links to a number of sources, including my own, LynnHappens.

Besides the two local papers and LH, take a look at what the bloggers in the links to your left have to say, and then make your own decision based on as much information as you can gather.

To vote without knowledge is to gamble with our future, but voting with knowledge empowers us to influence our future.

Happy Voting Day!

Stolen Dog Alert!

This post was sent by Jocelyn Almy-Testa of www.tlguts.com regarding a dog stolen from one of the artists who has exhibited at The Little Gallery Under The Stairs.

"hi. My 1 year old 5 pound silver merle male chihuahua (pinto) got stolen from 52 green street Lynn, Mass this morning 10-12-09 and me and my 7 year old son are so heartbroken. We have owned pinto since he was 4 months old and really want him back to the only house he knows as his home and the only family he knows. If anyone sees him, knows who stole him, or has any information on him you can stay anonymous and there is a cash reward for his safe return. Thanks. Reply to: comm-qrgr6-1420215171@craigslist.org"

Imitation is flattery?

I just read on UniversalHub that those who bring you the Lynn Journal, Revere Journal and so forth are revamping their long outdated websites with Wordpress.

It's a welcome improvement. I usually get my news online and I've always kind of felt bad that I was reading the Item more than the Journal. Ideally, I'd always read both.

The Revere Journal has already switched to the new format. Doesn't it look familiar?

It's entirely possible that they simply discovered the same template on their own. It's the best one I found for this purpose, though I customized it a little more for LynnHappens. My version of this WP theme has been running since July. But I still wonder if their idea was sparked by seeing LH.

In any case, LH isn't exactly in direct competition with the papers. It's defined as it grows, it doesn't publish on a regimented schedule, and ultimately, I believe that it has a different scope and purpose.

If switching to Wordpress helps these papers survive, then I am one-hundred percent in favor of it, even if they must pick the same theme.

Neighborhood Cleanup

This is at least going to be the second Central Square Cares cleanup since I've moved here. Soraya from The Real Estate Stiletto has taken the reigns and is doing a great job putting it together, and Jennifer from Survival by Design has made a great poster!

A congratulations goes out to Lorin, who organized the first Central Square Cares Cleanup, and her husband Mike, on their new baby!

It looks like something!

Check out the latest on LH!

Is it a blog? Is it a news source? Is it an events listing? You'll have to decide for yourselves.

  • Most posts allow for comments
  • New photo gallery feature
  • Forums have been preserved, with a new look and are easier to use
  • Videos embedded in posts (as on Living in Lynn)
  • Easy tabs navigate posts by assigned categories
  • Affordable, non-intrusive advertising available
There are a few odds and ends that need tweaking, but it's fully operational!

Back to work on the Happens

This is as much a motivator and reminder to myself as it is a note to the public. I will resume work on LynnHappens.com tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to easier content management, and as a result, more content.

NOTE: If you visit LynnHappens.com throughout the next couple of days and it's rather incomplete, it's because I'm updating it live!

A busy day at the market

Every Thursday from 11am - 3pm The Food Project brings fresh produce and more to Central Square. It's nice to have an open market across the street from your home! There has been talk of moving across the street to the archways under the train tracks, which way back when housed shops. If they do, they'll probably extend hours later for the 9-5 set. I hope they extend their hours, either way. Sometimes, vendors stay past the official operating hours, anyway.

If you lived here, you'd be at the market by now!

I won't make it to City Council tonight

Hey folks, I'm still here in beautiful Maine, looking out over Moosehead Lake. Considering it's 11:30am and there's still a few things on our agenda for today, it's highly unlikely I'll make it back in time to video tonight's City Council. While I make coverage of the meetings a priority, I don't always have the wiggle room in my schedule to react to changes in the Council's schedule. I do agree wholeheartedly with why they postponed this month's meeting, of course.

If anyone has a camera handy, I'll gladly help them upload the video. Otherwise, it'll be live on LynnCAM and replayed there a few times.
